Virginia's Capitol is located in Downtown Richmond, VA at the top of the hill on Capitol Square. The Capitol's address for GPS is 900 Bank Street, Richmond, VA 23219.
Parking in Downtown Richmond can be difficult to find, especially if the General Assembly is in the midst of it's legislative session. Below is a map of the closest parking lots and garages that are available to the public. The cost of each lot or garage varies, but most have a cost under $25 for the entire day. There is street parking available, but it is limited to 2 hours and at a cost of $1.25 per hour.
Recently, some public buildings on Capitol Square have become subject to additional restrictions on who has access and when.
To enter the Capitol Building and the Pocahontas (General Assembly) Building, members of the public must pass through metal detectors. The screening line can be long at certain times. If you have an appointment, scheduled tour, or plan to attend a hearing, it may be best to arrive extra early to provide enough time getting through security.
Beginning January 2020, firearms are prohibited in the Capitol and Pocahontas Buildings. This ban includes individuals with concealed carry permits. This prohibition does not apply to the grounds of Capitol Square, only the inside either building.
